A plan to upgrade Britain’s Sky

Planes across the UK still fly on many of the same routes that were put in place in the 1950s. But all that’s about to change. Today, planes can fly using satellite navigation, yet they still follow outdated routes, often relying on air traffic controllers to give them directions. With modern technology, planes could climb more quickly and take more direct routes. There would be less noise from planes and fewer carbon emissions per flight, as well as fewer delays caused by congestion in the sky.

This year ACOG are publishing the next version of the Airspace masterplan to reflect the progress that’s being made. We’ll be providing more information on it later this year.

What is airspace modernisation?

Why modernise our airspace?

Airspace is a crucial part of the UK’s infrastructure. Just like our roads and railways, it must be improved to keep people moving as efficiently as possible.

Here is why we need to modernise our airspace

Who are ACOG?
